Quick RPG Plot Ideas No. 3
Name: A True Treasure
Setting: An Ancient Forest, Temple or Lost City. Modern, Fantasy or Sci Fi.
Quick Summary: Your adventurers are down on their luck and need a way out, bills are due and people are looking for you, the kind of people you don’t want to meet in a dark alley.
You have an answer though, as a map (or Journal, or Data Chip) has fallen into your hands detailing the last known location of a great treasure. You can call in every favour you have left and finally get out of this hole.
After going through hell you’re nearly there but other greedy people are not far away and then the worst happens… This artefact it’s not just important to you, you find out it’s invaluable to the local people who suffer daily, it’s their only hope of salvation… but isn’t it also your only hope as well?
Recommendations: This can work great as a one shot or a short campaign, It works well as a Sci-Fi like Avatar, in a classic fantasy setting or even an modern Indian Jones or Tomb Raider style adventure. It presents a fun opportunity for moral conflict.
Sometimes a great twist can be to turn it around at the last minute and have the locals be a crazed cult that wants the artefact for evil to spice things up.
Possible Systems: Once again any system you’re comfortable with works well for this one.
